The sommelier

Francesca Steffenino

In cooperation with Casa Armenia

He was born in Turin into a wine-loving family for generations: his paternal grandparents produced Barbera and Grignolino in Quarto d'Asti, while his maternal grandparents owned a wine shop in Turin. After graduating in Philosophy, he became Sommelier Ais in 2015. He works in catering not only in Piedmont but also in New Zealand. He grew up in the world of wine thanks to experience in commerce and in wineries. Today he organises wine courses and tasting evenings. Collaborates with Casa Armenia Brandy and Wines with the aim of promoting its wines and broadening the tasting horizons of those who taste them.

Armenia: to the origins of viticulture

Tasting Armenian wines takes us to an area that has always been the cradle of wine: in fact, the first wine cellar of mankind was found in a small cave in Armenia, in Areni.
Today, Armenia continues to be a great wine producer, having the good fortune to possess more than 400 varieties of indigenous grape varieties. For 6000 years, Armenians have been cultivating vines on volcanic and mountainous terrain: 'heroic' viticulture, with vines grown between 1000 and 1500 metres above sea level. They produce savoury and mineral wines with complex and intense bouquets, using various oenological techniques including vinification in amphora.

"Casa Armenia Brandy & Wines' is the only distributor of Armenian wines in Italy. It is based in Turin, where it has also opened a restaurant and a wine shop, but operates throughout the country.

It imports more than a hundred labels directly from Armenia. The selection of wines ranges from charmat bubbles to champenoise bubbles, through savoury and mineral whites, spicy and structured reds or fermented and amphora-aged reds to fermented pomegranate-based spirits.

The goal that Harut Vopani and Meline Sarukhanyan, the owner couple, have set themselves is to make Armenian food and wine known in Italy. To do this, they employ trainers and sommeliers who can tell the story of Armenia, not only from a wine point of view, but also from a historical, cultural and artistic one.

Event in cooperation with Sidea

70 years in business and an undiminished passion for spices have led SIDEA to distinguish itself, in a trade that is still an art, both as an importer and as a processing and marketing company.
Zanzibar, Ceylon, Sarawak, Madras, Singapore: faraway places that evoke the magic of Venetian trade at the time of the corsair wars, and yet so close thanks to SIDEA, which, from the immediate post-war period to the present day, daily retraces the adventurous trajectories of Marco Polo and the Serenissima, bringing directly to the table an aromatic, colourful and enchanting world: the kaleidoscopic world of spices.
